Plants and Insects

Plants and Insects is a two-volume set of hand-sewn books with 14 hand-colored woodcuts and 14 graphite rubbings of the wood block; some have mica. The text is from “Spring Snow” by Yukio Mishima. In this novel, he was lamenting the disappearance of nature from Japanese society. I cut most of the blocks sitting by tide pools; the text is letterpress printed. The graphite rubbings on the verso are from the same block as the print on the recto. Size is 22” long x 10” wide.
